Maruti Suzuki India has announced that the Jimny 5-door has surpassed a major export milestone, with cumulative shipments from India exceeding 1 lakh units.

The compact SUV, manufactured exclusively in India, has been shipped to over 100 countries, including Japan, Mexico, Australia, South Africa, Chile and Nepal.

Exports of the Jimny 5-door began in 2023, shortly after its domestic launch. The model received an especially strong response in Japan, where it is marketed as the "Jimny Nomade." Within days of its introduction in January 2025, orders in Japan crossed the 50,000 mark, highlighting the SUV’s appeal in one of the world’s most discerning automobile markets.

Despite its international success, the Jimny 5-door has struggled in India. Since its launch on July 7, 2023, domestic sales have reached just 27,812 units, accounting for less than a third of its total exports.

Analysts suggest that the SUV’s rugged off-road capabilities appeal to a niche audience in India, while urban buyers often prioritize fuel efficiency and engine performance—areas where the Jimny’s strengths are less visible.

In Nepal, the Jimny 5-door is priced between Rs 63.99 lakh and Rs 74.79 lakh. Since its launch in August 2023, it has attracted interest primarily from off-road enthusiasts and a niche segment of buyers, though sales have not mirrored the rapid uptake seen in export markets.
